Kayla Pierce's singing career started with her grandfather when she was 10 years old. She had always had an interest in singing at her church. He asked her one day if she wanted to perform a duet with him in front of the whole congregation. The young talent was nervous at first, but as soon as the song ended, she knew that she wanted to keep doing things like this. Pierce have been a part of her church adult choir as well as the hand bell choir for almost 7 years now. The interest really skyrocketed in the 7th grade, while Pierce was under the instruction of her favorite choir director, Mr. Stephen Howell. Howell really enhanced Pierce's skills in music theory and history. She has said one of her favorite moments was when the choir had the opportunity to sing a medley of Les Misérables. She was given the chance to sing a solo and jumped for it. She was given a small solo, but at the time it was everything to the young singer. The solo was originally by the character Jean Valjean, and it was Pierce's favorite solo done in middle school. Now, Pierce is an advanced member of the concert choir at Wakefield High School. At the end of her freshman year, Pierce's choir director, Mr. John-Phillip Mullinax, asked her to try out for the North Carolina Honors Chorus, and again, the singer jumped at the opportunity. It was one of the most nerve racking auditions she had ever done, as the singer describes, but she made it through, and was given a seat. She would continue on to be given a seat at Honors Chorus for the next 2 years, in total singing with the group for 3 years in a row, a feat in achievable by anyone else in the high school's history. Pierce explains that she plans on going to college and major, for now, in general music. "All I know is that I plan to have music be a significant part of my life for many years to come".
